A device that reduces the volume of gas in order to increase its pressure is known as an air compressor. For many businesses and households, air compressors are essential because they help you save time and money that they would have otherwise spent on workshops.
However, they also require some consideration, tenderness, and checks and balances. If they don’t get this, they start experiencing various harmful situations at work. A worrisome issue that goes unreported is running out of air and many others that you are unable to identify.
To help you with your question, what is wrong with my air compressor I am here with a long list of conditions-related problems that usually can happen to air compressors. I believe by going through the list you will be able to sort out your compressor problem. So, let’s dig into the problems.
What is wrong with my air compressor?
An air compressor isn’t a complex technology but continuous use and minimum to no care can damage anything whether it’s a compressor or any other tool, after all its machinery made by humans and machines.
But the main concern is that you are unable to locate the issue, mainly air compressor undergoes underlying causes that aren’t evident but the machine stops working properly. The cherry on top, you get to know about it whether in its initial stages and if you ignore it a bit or sometimes you get to know when the compressor completely loses its mobility and operation.
Now, that is also the situation going on with you but don’t worry, if you are reading it out you are at the right place! I always say better late than never, maybe the situation hasn’t worsened and you can handle it at home. To find out, continue reading the list.
List of 7 main issues with air compressors and their parts
This list will include minor to major issues that an air compressor can probably get. But, with some conditions, you can handle the case but unfortunately, compressors commonly get into critical situations where you need a replacement and that’s not a budget-friendly option. Anyways, let’s start:
- Compressor leaking issue
- Compressor working issue
- Compressor noise issue
- Compressor air & pressure issue
- Compressor oil issue
- Compressor vibration issue
- Compressor milky reservoir issue
1. Compressor leaking issue:
The most common but still people are facing such issues, but at the same time, this is such a vast category where leaking can happen from multiple placing in the compressor. Fortunately, you can solve this issue by locating the leak and by sealing it.
You can spot the leak with the help of soap, just coat the compressor completely with some and see bubbles coming and seal it out! Make sure the compressor isn’t plugged in.
2. Compressor working issue:
Not easy to locate and there must be a bug reason behind it. I always suggest using the machine to its capacity because at the end of the day it’s a machine. There can be two conditions, the machine not starting and the machine being unable to stop.
The most prominent reason can be a faulty pressure valve, check to see if it’s leaking or broken and replace it as it won’t cost you much. Again, if that’s not the case go see a technician.
3. Compressor noise issue:
Not all air compressors are noisy, and if your compressor is making noise around 70 – 78db then that’s normal, you don’t need to worry about that. But if it is extremely loud then the situation is concerning.
There are four major reasons behind it that include: loosened parts, a problem with your pistons, unsuitable mounting and a disturbed crankcase. Most of the time, annoying noises are a sign that there is a problem internal to the device.
4. Compressor air & pressure issue:
Concerns with pressure and flow are some of the most frequent issues with air compressors, and they frequently show themselves as physical signs:
Damaged intake filter, the air coming from the hose, the air coming in the form of short eruptions etc. Air compressor faces air and pressure issues when it is unable to generate normal airflow.
5. Compressor oil issue:
Mainly in heavy-load air compressors, people face issues with oil leaking, insufficient oil viscosity and much more. If you are facing such issues, you can fix the bolts for oil leaking and change the oil for its viscosity.
6. Compressor vibration issue:
Vibratory air compressors seem scary to me, I believe with a vibratory air compressor the chances of explosion are severely high. Because if your compressor is working and in the midway, the bolts get loosened it will start vibrating, or any other tool misalignment can result in dangerous conditions.
Meanwhile, tremors and vibrations could still be a problem even after tightening every component indicated above if not all legs are firmly planted on the ground.
7. Compressor milky reservoir issue:
A little uncommon but it happens, basically, it’s a condition when oil starts taking a milky white color. Sound strange? But basically, it is an indication or a sign that you are working a lot. For immediate action, you need to cool it down. No, it’s not overheating but kind of like that.
Also, if the situation isn’t getting in control you need to drain the tank after using it!
Final words:
Care comes along when you think of an air compressor and you can’t neglect this fact. Because if you do, consequences are Infront of you that you get to face with stress and money.
