We all are well aware of the fact that our lives are getting more dependent on an air compressor as compared to any other home-based machine. An Air compressor is a multi-functional machine that can work with different tools as per your need and adjustments.
With all the uses, common problems and difficulties come hand in hand and you have to deal with them all, sometimes alone and sometime by taking a tour of the workshop. Air compressor isn’t difficult to deal with and I believe you can get away with these quite efficiently.
To locate some common problems and their solution, today we will talk about how to troubleshoot air compressors. I will take you with me on this journey where we will discuss tips and solutions for troubleshooting your air compressor. Better let’s start with it now:
10 ways to troubleshoot your air compressor
Air compressors, like other heavily used gear, require routine maintenance to maintain efficiency and performance. But frequent use puts them vulnerable to damage. Issues will ultimately arise. To help you do the job in your comfort ad budget, here are ten ways to troubleshoot air compressor:
1. Compressor failure:
Compressor failure is one of the most prominent problems that compressor face. For many reasons compressors don’t start and even in some cases, they fail to stop, even after the completion of the task. This case can be the result of multiple problems, starting from oi shortage, to low pressure, poor power cable and much more. So, make sure that you keep a check on them.
The alarming situation is of compressor failing to stop working, in this case, I suggest people release the pressure. Because the common reason behind it is the tank pressure hitting the cut-off pressure.
2. Air leakage:
Many people complain that despite filling our air tank, the indicator says lower pressure which means there must be an air leakage happening around that you aren’t aware of. If you want to ensure that where it is happening, start the compressor in a silent place and hear the hissing sound, that’s all you can do. While operating, you can’t touch the machine, so go for hearing.
3. Belt wear:
A little uncommon all because people are unable to find the reason behind the machine’s faulty operation. There are some specific reasons behind belt wearing, it can be because of belt loosening or tension. But you can fix it by fixing the belt tension and we have a blog written on it too if you want to read it out!
4. Vibration % noise:
The second most common, I believe is a vibrational compressor and a noisy one. These two are easy to spot on but a little difficult to fix as they are a result of some underlying problems. Sometimes, it happens because of the bolts.
So, you can simply tighten them and you will be done but if that’s not the case call the operation team of the manufacturer’s call center for fixing it!
5. Moisture accumulation:
Air compressor destruction happens mostly because of moisture but in most such cases you have to go for replacement. All because you get to know about it pretty late by the time the tank has corroded to an extent.
Basically, it all starts when you don’t drain the water completely and some water get left in the form of droplets. Even droplets damage the compressor tank and it starts flaking out.
6. Increase oil usage:
I believe we all know when a machine or any equipment starts using more oil as suggested and demanded by it at the start, there is something fishy happening in the machine’s operation. Oil leaking can take place, maybe you are running the machine at extreme pressure etc.
In some cases, when you use low-quality or viscosity oil, it can result in increased oil consumption. To stop right then and there, make sure you change it by draining the previously used.
7. Overheating machine:
Too hot air released by the compressor has the potential to harm any surfaces or objects it comes into touch with. There is a high chance that t compressor’s interior workings could also be in danger. This can be because of the dirt accumulation in the compressor that is acting as a barrier for air to move out.
In another way, external temperature plays a huge role in overheating of compressors, so make sure you place it inside your garage or warehouse. Mainly try to avoid direct heat interaction of air compressor.
8. Pressure problems:
Lastly, the pressure of the compressor is that without the pressure your air compressor is nothing but a tool that doesn’t work. Even the slightest air pressure problem can stop the compressor functionality, so you better locate and fix that.
Primarily, there might be a broken check valve and for that, you need to do tank bleeding because that’s become necessary if this occurs.
Final words:
Air compressor and its problems, if you are an owner, you know what I am talking about. At the same time, we know that’s not something to stress about a lot. You need some patience and go through all the 8 problems that I’ve discussed above to know and solve your issues without spending much.
I hope by now, you got a great understanding of all the problems. But, if you are facing any other problem don’t forget to question us, we are always here to help!
