How to Adjust Cut-Out Pressure in the Air Compressor?

by Ivan Sanchez | Last Updated December 26, 2021

How to Adjust Cut-Out Pressure in the Air CompressorThe diversity of uses that air compressors have found has led to understanding its basic parts and functioning.

Two of the most important switches in an air compressor are the cut-in and cut-out.

They can determine the value of pressure required for a specific job.

If any of these is not set according to the right measurement, the results can’t be satisfactory.

For this reason, the user is recommended to have a clear understanding of the two.

The manual that comes with the air compressor can help in this regard, but if there are no sufficient details, then the detailed overview of the cut-out switch is given as follows.

Cut-out pressure in air compressor – An Introduction

The cut-out pressure in an air compressor is when the compressor stops.

It is the maximum pressure that is required for a specific tool.

The two points in an air compressor are important to be remembered, i.e., cut-in and cut-out pressure.

These are important for the smooth running of the machine and the safety of the user as well.

If a user has a clear idea of how to use the cut-in and cut-out switch, they will use the machine safely.

A small mistake can create problems for the user.

There are different types of switches in the compressor depending on the model and type of compressor.

If the compressor comes with a fixed switch, then the cut-out switch will be directly connected to the cut-in switch.

In the case of a variable switch, there is the freedom to change the cut-in and cut-out pressure.

The main thing that needs to be kept in mind while working on the cut-in and cut-out pressure is that the required threshold level should be followed.

The cut-in and cut-out in the adjustable air compressors are separate and allow the user to make adjustments in a specific range.

Role of Cut-in and Cut-out Switches

The cut-in switch, as said earlier, represents the starting point of pressure, while the cut-out switch represents at which the compressor stops.

These two determine the range in which the compressor works. This range is modified as per the needs of the tool for which pressure is required.

The more the value of cut-out pressure increases, the more pressure it will create.

So, the cut-out switch is responsible for the maximum pressure creation.

If it is wrongly set, it will create problems for the user. It is clear from the consequences that it carries.

It might even cause harm to the user and machine if it is above the pressure required for a specific tool.

Therefore, the user must keep it according to the needs of the machine.

How to adjust the cut-out switch?

Many people want to know about the adjustment of the cut-out switch. In the case of the fixed switch machine, it will automatically change with the change of the cut-in switch.

Before changing the cut-out switch, you need to confirm whether your cut-in and cut-out switch are fixed or adjustable.

In each case, the procedure for changing the cut-out pressure switch will differ.

It is better to take some safety measures before changing the cut-out switch.

It would be better to turn off the switch so that it doesn’t harm you.

The factor setting and manual tell the maximum pressure, and you should be careful about it.

The range difference between the two pressure values is important.

It is better to keep the range at the level which the company recommends.

These two shouldn’t be shrunk to be brought together.

If the differential is not kept according to the company setting, then it can cause harm to the tank, motor, or any other part of the machine.

Identify the cut-in and cut-out switches and change them according to your needs.

The first thing during this change is taking the cap off the cut-out switch.

Rotate it in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction if it is moveable. If it is done using the spring button, do it this way.

Once the cut-out pressure reaches the required value, stop changing it and put the cap back on it.

Final Thoughts

The change of cut-out pressure in the air compressor is easy.

It can be done by identifying the respective switch and changing it according to the required pressure.

Once it is done, the user should recap it to keep it safe. It doesn’t require any technical expertise, and the only thing that the user needs to keep in mind is the safety factor.
