Do air compressors turn on automatically by themselves?

by Ivan Sanchez | Last Updated May 15, 2022

Air compressors are the most reputable machines that are found in almost every household and businesses etc. With functioning, certain circumstances do occur which left you in trouble in the midst of your work.

One of the most infrequent problems of air compressors that are mostly asked is, do air compressors turn on by themselves or if it’s just happening with you, let me clear at first it is an issue.

When researching about it, we came across hundreds of consequences, and to make it worthy enough to answer your question, we have written this article in a well-organized manner to reach our conclusive answer in a matter of seconds.

Do air compressors turn on automatically by themselves?

The air compressor doesn’t actually turn on by itself, but there must be reasons for a machine to act like this. An air compressor running continuously under normal conditions often leads to clogged filters because of excessive dust and debris being generated in the working.

This can also be the cause of your air compressor running on its own. So are the discharge valves, over where the air moves out.

When the valve is closed, the air can’t seem to move and spread in an open environment, increasing the temperature of the air compressor.

By this, the machine for its defense mechanism, stops working, and after it gets back to its normal temperature, it starts on its own. Just like this, there are certain other factors too.

Factors by which air compressor turns on by themselves

According to the approach of air compressors, they work insanely at the hour range of around 40 – 60 thousand hours, which is rare for a machine to work.

At the same time, they are known for their durability and for how long they work and survive just for some pennies.

The factors include:

1. Not disconnecting when starting:

Putting the compressor at the power switch while trying to set and start it off has a different mechanism behind it for what it is advised not to do.

It is better to unplug the air compressor while it is locked out as it can also be the reason for air compressor failure and problems.

2. Timer on the air compressor:

Like every other modern technology, air compressors are now coming up with built-in timers for better functioning of air compressors. But why is it there?

Being the purpose, the built-in timers are for the air compressors used for production purposes, in industries where they don’t have enough time and people to stand on the compressor to stop and run it.

So, the built-in timers can be the reason for the air compressor starting on its own, and you are unaware of that, so you might need to check out if this is the case.

3. The ambient temperature:

Considering the temperature, there are two possibilities. One within the machine and one outside of the machine.

It can be the extreme hot weather that will automatically turn off and on the machine.

By inside temperature, expansion can be the reason for multiple complications, and as to the settings of the machine by the manufacturers, it starts over and over again.

4. Electric supply to the compressor:

If your compressor is messing up with you, you need to check the electric supply of the air compressor, as one of the simplest protocols to do for confirmation.

For that, you need to know about the electric cables from their ends to know if it is working or not.

It can be the case that your circuit breaker is doing the problem, which leads your air compressor to start again and again by itself.

It is quite a problem for people using the air compressor for home purposes to know and ensure that the voltage they are getting goes with the need for the air compressor or not.

5. Pressure switch of the compressor:

A pressure switch has the same importance as off the power supply; you need to examine the pressure switch to see if it’s working or not properly as it is the cause of an air compressor starting after some time.

Before doing so, you need to switch off the compressor, remove the lid and do the required examination.

After that, switch it on, and you will be able to know about the pin problem of the air compressor, whether it is because of the pressure switch or not.

6. Not starting it unloaded:

The machine, along with general principles of physics, works on the torque and lubrication, the manner that if you don’t start it off unloaded, it will cause problems.

The loaded compressor will decrease the torque and all of the moisture in the form of the oils etc.

By doing so, you will be able to restore your machine’s working, and it will not start automatically.

7. Oil of the compressor:

As we have already discussed the power supply and the lubrication of the equipment, so is the overheating.

Now what I mean by checking the oil of your machine is that it is the vital source on which an air compressor shows its working alongside the electric supply.

If you use motor oil or the one that is not in its finest quality or is old enough for an air compressor to run again, you better not need to neglect it.

Conclusion

An air compressor with its compact body and excellence in working has got all the right name for its availability in every household and industry; it can be of anything.

In the above-mentioned section, we have talked about all the possible reasons concerning their solution for air compressors to start by themselves.

These all are the basic stuff that needs your attention, just like the auto button being active on the compressor, as it is not a common condition of an air compressor to start by its own.
